Getting Affiliated with the DRC

Everyone is unique. A conversation about your experiences will help us identify the types of accommodations that may be appropriate and the information necessary to support those accommodations. Let's start the conversation with an appointment; please bring any documentation you have available and think is appropriate.

New to the DRC? Follow these steps to get affiliated with our office.

Incoming Frosh/Transfers

  • Submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). If you have been admitted to the university and have decided UCSC is for you, submit your SIR (Frosh due May 1st; Transfers due June 1st).  To track your status, visit the student portal.

    • Apply for housing as soon as possible if applicable. Request any disability-related housing accommodations by the housing application deadline, please review the Housing Accommodation Web Page for more information.

  • Fill out the DRC Welcome Form and make an appointment to see a DRC service coordinator.  To schedule an appointment with a service coordinator please follow this getting affiliated guide.

  • You do not need documentation to make an appointment, but if you have documentation please submit it to our office as soon as possible or bring it with you to your appointment. In situations where documentation is insufficient, "provisional" accommodations can be provided pending adequate documentation.

  • Register and request placement exam accommodations for any needed placement exams. Some departments require a placement exam before enrolling in their courses. If you need accommodations for those exams, contact the DRC and the department sponsoring the exam at least 7 business days in advance of the exam date.

  • Complete the Slug Orientation Courses. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the DRC, familiarize yourself with campus resources, learn about your major, get your enrollment appointment, and connect with your Orientation Leader.
