Non-Workstudy

Become a DRC Peer Notetaker! Earn money for taking class notes while supporting other students and making our campus more accessible! Check out the Peer Notetaker Handbook to learn more.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Have a 2.75 minimum GPA.

  • Promptly attend all classes/watch recorded lectures

  • Take good/organized, legible handwritten or typed notes

Two Steps to Apply:

  1. Complete an application through UCSC's Handshake. Search for the job title DRC Peer Notetaker-Compensated Volunteer.
  2. Complete the Notetaker Course Selection Form to indicate the courses that you are enrolled in and willing to take notes for.

This is a Non-Work Study position

Please Note: Applying to the position and being hired through the Handshake system does not designate you as the selected and assigned Notetaker for a class; it makes you eligible to receive notetaking assignments. You will be notified about a specific assignment via email. You will not be compensated if you are not assigned to a course or if you are not consistently uploading your notes to the Accommodate Note Taker Network.

 Assigned Notetakers are expected to:

  • Upload notes to the Accommodate Note Taker Network within 24 hours of each lecture

  • Notify the DRC at drcnotes@ucsc.edu immediately when unable to take notes for a scheduled class (before the start of the class, if possible) and whenever an assigned course is dropped

  • Maintain the student’s right to confidentiality regarding their disability, including their identity, affiliation with the DRC and any other information related to them

  • Respond DRC inquiries (emails and/or phone calls) within 24 hours

  • Reach out to drcnotes@ucsc.edu with any questions or concerns regarding your notetaking assignment. We are here to support you.

Complete the DRC Peer Notetaker Course Selection Form every quarter to indicate which classes you are available as a peer notetaker.

Important Information:

  • Only one notetaker is selected per class (not per DRC student).

  • If you are assigned after Week 1, you are only expected to provide notes from time of the assignment forward. However, you are encouraged to submit notes from all previous lectures (if you are able) in order to provide complete access to the student.

  • The DRC copier/scanner is available for use from 8:00 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday, except holidays.

  • Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Compensation:

  • The Blue Card (employment verification) process must be completed through the Career Center in order to receive compensation.

  • Notetakers will receive a nominal compensation of $25 per unit, per course for all 10 weeks or an entire summer session.

  • You will receive your compensation in one lump sum after the quarter has ended either via mail or direct deposit, depending on what you have indicated in your myUCSC portal as your preferred method of payment. We encourage you to set up direct deposit to prevent a delay in compensation.
