Requesting a Peer Notetaker

After you have been authorized for the Peer Notetaker accommodation by your DRC service coordinator, follow these steps to request a notetaker for specific courses each quarter. In order to receive timely accommodations, it is important to request early, in advance of the start of the quarter when possible. If you do not request in a timely manner we will try our best to provide the accommodation, but it is not guaranteed. Keep in mind it can take time to recruit and hire a notetaker. Don't hesitate to contact your DRC service coordinator or DRC Notetaking Services at drcnotes@ucsc.edu if you have any questions.

Request Accommodation

To request your Peer Notetaker Accommodation, please submit your Quarter Request (Request AA Letters) within Accommodate and be sure to click on “Review The Renewal” to choose the specific courses in which you are requesting a Peer Notetaker to be assigned for your courses. During the recruitment, students with the peer notetaker accommodation are eligible to receive an alternative notetaking accommodation to use alongside their peer notetaker accommodation and when a peer notetaker is not available for a specific course.

Access Course Notes in the Notetaker Network

When a notetaker is assigned to your requested class, you will receive an automatic email from Accommodate with the subject line “Note Taker - Assigned To [Course Title].” You may access the "Notetaker Network" within Accommodate by following this how to access notes in Accommodate step-by-step guide.

If you drop a course you have requested a notetaker for, notify the DRC right away.

If you are concerned about the timeliness and/or the quality of your notes, please contact the DRC Notetaker Coordinator at drcnotes@ucsc.edu as soon as possible.

Notetaker Recruitment

You may help by participating in the recruitment process in several ways. You may ask the professor to make an anonymous announcement in class or you may choose to make the announcement yourself, or you may know someone in class that would be a good notetaker and recruit them individually. Information about the role, including qualifications, expectations and hiring details can be found on the DRC Notetaker webpage. Announcements should include the following information:

  • It is a paid position.

  • Anyone interested should contact drcnotes@ucsc.edu right away. Notetakers cannot begin providing notes until they have been hired by the DRC.

  • The DRC hires only one Notetaker per class.
