Off-Campus Resources

  • Access Santa Cruz County: an excellent resource regarding disability accessibility in Santa Cruz County—everything from wheelchair access at local restaurants to disability services to where to purchase/rent needed medical equipment.
  • Central Coast Center for Independent Living: this local Santa Cruz organization provides information and referral related to disability needs and living independently. If you have questions about assistive technology, local disability resources, advocacy, etc, give them a call.
  • Community Information Database: this searchable Santa Cruz Library database lists every non-profit in town.
  • Department of Rehabilitation: DoR is a federal agency that helps people with disabilities enter the workforce. This can sometimes include paying for educational training toward employment. DoR has a branch office in Capitola, about 20 minutes from the UCSC campus.
  • Disability Benefits 101: a great resource for those receiving supplemental disability income, but who are interested in gainful employment.
  • Metro Santa Cruz Paratransit: information for those who cannot use the regular Metro system for off-campus transportation needs. For additional options see Access Santa Cruz County transportation information.
