Winter Quarter Enrollment: Enrollment for continuing and readmitted students for Winter quarter begins November 13-21. The online Schedule of Classes for Winter quarter should be available on November 5th. Open enrollment will be from November 22-January 7.
Withdraw from Class: Deadline to withdraw with a W (Withdraw) notation, except for emergency reasons, is November 7th.
Student Organization: The DRC affiliated student organization, formerly SLUGS with Learning Challenges, is now called the *Disability Alliance* or DA for short (if you are a Harry Potter fan). New officers are: Scott Rohlf, President; Janelle Johnson, Vice President; Katie Hodges, Secretary; and Zach Woodford, Compliance Officer. They have some exciting goals over the next two years and will need help from general members. This is open to any UCSC student who is concerned about disability-related issues. Sample projects: identifying priorities for better campus wheelchair access; developing a fund to help pay for LD assessments; participating in the diversity event for all UC students; and planning and implementing a disability awareness fair for next year. Send an email to slc.ucsc@gmail.com if you would like more information.
Paid Summer Internship Program Information: The Emerging Leaders Summer Internship Program for College Students with Disabilities offers paid summer internships at many of America's leading corporations. These companies are members of the National Business & Disability Council www.nbdc.com and are proactive in recruiting qualified people with disabilities.
To be considered for an internship, a student must be an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student with a disability, who has completed at least 60 credits, and is maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA. More information can be found on the web site at www.emerging-leaders.com. Please note: the application deadline is December 31, 2007.
In addition, the following is important information about a FREE service to students and graduates with disabilities: the National Business & Disability Council's National Resume Database, which was developed with the goal of bringing together top talent with disabilities and America's top employers in both the private and public sector. This service is provided free of charge to job seekers with disabilities and is open to applicants who have earned or are expected to earn a two or four year degree within the next six months, or who have completed equivalent technical training.

The Summer Research
Early Identification Program
Program Structure
The Leadership Alliance Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP), offers undergraduates, interested in pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD, the opportunity to work for eight to ten weeks under the guidance of a faculty or research mentor at a participating Alliance institution. Through this one-on-one collaboration, students gain theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation. The SR-EIP is designed to encourage students from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, social sciences and humanities to consider research careers in the academic, public or private sectors. Students are required to present a written report and/or abstract at the end of their summer research activity and complete a program evaluation. All participants are expected to make oral or poster presentations of their research at the Leadership Alliance's annual, national symposium. This all expense paid summer internship provides students with a competitive stipend, travel and housing.
The Application Deadline is February 1st.
