Final Exams: March 18-21
For those of you who plan on receiving test accommodations for any or all of your final exams make sure you know the location and time arranged for each final. Contact your instructor or designee for details if you have not been informed at least a week before the test date. If you have any other concerns contact your DRC Coordinator before your scheduled final.
If you require adaptive equipment for an exam please contact the DRC as soon as possible to reserve the equipment. Call 459-2089 Monday through Friday 8-5. Good luck and enjoy your spring break!
Equipment Check-Out
As many of you know, when checking out a laptop from the DRC for exam use, there have been "jump drives" or "flash drives" available to borrow along with the computer. Because most of these drives have never been returned, the DRC can no longer make them available for checkout. In the future, please remember to bring a CD for storing your exam file and then submit the CD to your instructor. CDs will be available for purchase at the DRC in the event that you need one quickly. Typed instructions on how to burn a CD are now in each computer case. However, if you would prefer a demonstration on how to do this, please call the office, 459-2089, and request a quick training session with one of our computer assistants.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
Forward your email
It is very important that you are checking your UCSC email account regularly. It is the official university form of communication. The academic departments notify you of their exam accommodation arrangements via your UCSC email address. It is simple to have your UCSC email sent to your preferred email address. AmeriCorps Programs & Applicants w/ Disabilities
Below is a communication that the DRC received regarding the AmeriCorps program concerning applicants with disabilities. If you have an interest in applying for AmeriCorps you may want to read this before applying.
Hello,
We are working with AmeriCorps programs as they ramp up to recruit AmeriCorps members for start-up in August, 2008, to make their selection process a bit more flexible if an applicant with a disability is being considered. Because many people with disabilities may not have the pre-requisite experience some AmeriCorps programs are looking for, their applications may never make it to interview. We are finding it difficult to track and assist clients you are referring to AmeriCorps programs in your area as, by law, there is no information on whether the applicant has a disability in the AmeriCorps application.
Although we are encouraging AmeriCorps programs to bring applicants with disabilities in for an interview, if the applicant does not self-disclose in the application, there is no way for AmeriCorps to know which applications they should use the accommodated process with.
If you have a client who wants to consider AmeriCorps, please refer them to_ DisabilityServes@chla.usc.edu_, rather than to the AmeriCorps program directly. That will allow us to give potential applicants more information about AmeriCorps, determine which type of AmeriCorps program is the best match for the applicant, and then do an initial screening to see if they have the basic requirements. We can then discuss a strategy for completing the application. We will also ask permission from the applicant to allow us to notify AmeriCorps programs to look for their applications so they can consider using the modified screening and interview process.
We would appreciate your thoughts and/or concerns about this new procedure.
Thanks for working with us on this important project.
