The Colleges and University Housing (CUHS) Committee on Diversity and Affirmative Action will be hosting a student diversity retreat, April 13-15, 2007. Through a combination of large and small group activities, exercises and discussions, participants will explore their own identities and learn about the identities of others; explore their feelings and beliefs about differences, learn about how society and culture influence their beliefs, and examine how differences positively and negatively affect their relationships; explore the relationship between privilege and oppression; and return to campus as empowered leaders with skills around issues of diversity and social justice.
We ask that if you know of students who could benefit from this retreat and would be interested in the event, contact Valerie Steward at vsteward@ucsc.edu and she will forward the flyer and application to you. Student applications are due March 16, 2007. Thank you for your assistance.

Wednesday, March 7, 8pm, FREE
In decaying and resource-starved public schools, teachers and staffers with
incredible vision and energy are trying to make education work. But what do
we want from education now? Should it be organized around children spending

assumptions in this open-ended discussion. (Lisa Schiff, Will Grant, Karen
Allen, Ken Tray)
