DRC (Disability Resource Center) Electronic Advising Update
June 2009
Welcome! The DRC Electronic Advising Update is designed to keep you informed of important deadlines and to alert you to programs and resources that may be of interest to you. We will try to keep these publications as brief as possible. We hope that you will find it to be a useful tool to keep your quarter running smoothly.

Important! Potential Metro Bus Stop Changes
Do you ride the Santa Cruz Metro bus to the UCSC campus? Do you ride the Metro while on campus? Currently discussion is taking place about eliminating certain Metro bus stops on the UCSC campus. Metro would still come to campus, but some stops would be eliminated. The UCSC shuttles, however, will not be affected. We need your input! Do you have a disability that affects your mobility? Do you heavily rely on Metro bus stops that are on-campus? If so, please contact Susan Willats at willats@ucsc.edu to let her know of your on-campus Metro bus stop usage. We want to make sure the campus makes decisions that will not affect disability accessibility. Thanks!
Coordinator Karen Keen Leaving DRC
It is with mixed emotions that I announce I will be leaving my position as Program Services Coordinator at the DRC. I have worked at UC Santa Cruz for 8 years and have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of my students. I will miss you guys! However, I am also excited about moving across the country to pursue post-graduate education in theology at Duke University. My hope is to eventually obtain my Ph.D. and go into a career of writing and teaching.
My last day is July 22nd. So, I will still be here to see you finish out the Spring quarter and Summer Session I. After Summer Session I, those who have been working with me will be assigned to a new coordinator. If you have any questions after I leave, simply call the front desk at 459-2089 and our staff will make sure you receive the services you need.

Important: Will you need tutoring in the fall?
Learning Support Services can start recruiting tutors early if they know for which classes they will be needed. Please send email to drc@ucsc.edu with the name and course number of the classes for which you plan to request tutors in the fall. Thanks to those of you who supplied this information for spring. It really helped LSS to find solid people for your specific upper division science classes. This was a good deal for everyone!
Congratulations to our Graduates!
The time has come for us to say good bye and good luck to our 2009 graduating students. You have worked hard to achieve this major accomplishment and we are very proud of you. The DRC would like to start tracking our graduates…we hope you will inform your service coordinator of your plans. Graduate school? Job? Time off? We believe that the years you spent here at UCSC will serve you well as you begin you new adventures. Best wishes to each of you from the staff of the DRC.
Borrowed Equipment
Just a reminder that all borrowed equipment must be returned to the DRC by the end of the quarter. Please return your equipment by June 12th at the latest. If equipment is not returned, you will be charged the replacement amount and risk having a hold placed on
your record.
DRC Office Summer Hours
The DRC summer hours will be from 9-12 and 1-4 Monday through Friday beginning June 15th through August 31st. We will resume our regular 8-5 office hours beginning September 1st.
Summer Session Students
If you will need audio format for your texts….please send your book list to Angela as soon as possible. Her email is: adhollem@ucsc.edu. Thank you.
