Service Request Reminder:

If you are in need of accommodations this quarter please complete a Service Request Form ASAP if you haven’t already done so. Most of you have completed the Information Sheet for the year so you may request your services online. Please go to our web site at http://drc.ucsc.edu click on Current DRC Students, click on Request Services. You may pick up your packet of paperwork two days after submitting your online Service Request Form.

Important! Exam Accommodations:

All DRC students eligible for exam accommodations are expected to submit their requests for exam accommodations within the /first two weeks of the quarter/. Requests must be made no later than 10 business days before an exam. This is the minimum time frame necessary for professor notification, and for departments to arrange proctors and rooms. The only exceptions are:

  • Students with unanticipated, last minute injuries (e.g. broken arm)
  • Students new to the DRC who have not yet been oriented to procedures (this orientation takes place during the first meeting between a student and a Coordinator).
  • Students who have been given less than 10 business days notice for an exam (e.g. at the beginning of the quarter or a "pop" quiz/exam).

While the DRC will make every attempt to assist students who meet the exceptions above, the DRC cannot guarantee accommodation arrangements for last minute requests.

Announcement Regarding Illness:

The winter months are virus season. If you have a cold, the flu or another contagious virus, please make a phone appointment instead of coming to the DRC in-person. Some of our students have disability-related weaknesses in their immune systems, making them more susceptible to contagions. In addition, the staff wants to stay healthy so we can best serve everyone. Thank you!

Scholarship Competition for Disabled College Students:

disABLEDperson Inc.
501 (c) 3 Public Charity

disABLEdperson Inc. announces its Spring 2009 Nationally Based College Scholarship Competition for disabled college students.

disABLEDperson Inc will be holding their spring 2009 nationally based scholarship competition for disABLED college students beginning January 5, 2009 and ending February 27, 2009 for the sum of $750.00 (Seven Hundred and Fifty). We are proud to help the disabled community.

Please pay attention to the rules of this scholarship competition. They will be strictly enforced. Any essay that does not follow all the rules will be disqualified. To participate is simple, you need to do the following; its a two step process. The first step is to go to www.disABLEDperson.com/articles/spring09scholarship.asp . Once there, you need to completely fill out the form and submit it. The next step is to write an essay that answers the question and email the essay to us in the body of an email to Click Here

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO PUT YOUR NAME ON THE ESSAY IN THE EMAIL.

“Scholarship Competition Rules”

  • All required information must be filled into the form supplied. If you leave any blanks in the form, you will be disqualified. Also, should you place false information into the form, you will be disqualified. Next, you must submit the essay to us in the body of an email to disabledpersons@aol.com . Do not forget to place your name on the essay!
  • Proper spelling and grammar is imperative. As college students, you need to hold yourself to a high standard. Chronic misspellings and bad grammar will hurt your chances of winning.
  • You need to be enrolled in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university in the United States of America and actively taking a minimum of 12 credits (full time) to be eligible. Prior to the winner being awarded the scholarship, that individual will have to present to disABLEDperson Inc. an unofficial transcript from their school. If the winner can not demonstrate that they are taking a full time course load in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university in the United States, then disABLEDperson Inc. will award the scholarship to another student. We realize that some in our community may not be able to attend school full time because of their disability. However, we stand by our decision that the winner of our competition must be enrolled with a minimum of 12 credits because the financial burden of attending college full time is greater that the financial burden of attending college part time.
  • Students must be citizens of the United States of America and enrolled in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university in the United States. Please be prepared to demonstrate citizenship if we ask.
  • The winner will have to offer proof of their disability. This can be done simply by the applicant being registered with the Office of Disability at their respective institution and having the Office of Disability sending us an email to that effect. We will also accept from the Office of Disability a statement that the student is enrolled full time at the respective school.
  • The definition of disability that disABLEDperson Inc. uses for its scholarship competition is; A disadvantage or deficiency, especially a physical or mental impairment that interferes with or prevents normal achievement in a particular area. Something that hinders or incapacitates.
  • The length of the essay must not exceed 1000 words. Essays exceeding that number will be disqualified.
  • All decisions made by disABLEDperson Inc. are final.

Required Information: You must fill out the form entirely. All the information is required. Failure to present any of this information will result in disqualification. The information accumulated during this competition may be used for statistical purposes.

Essay question: You will need to go to www.disABLEDperson.com/articles/spring09scholarship.asp to find the essay question and submit your information. Thank you and good luck!
